Disk Accretion at 10 Myr: Results from the Tw Hydrae Association

چکیده

We present an analysis of the accretion properties of the members of the TW Hydrae association. The emission line profile of Hα provides explicit evidence of an active accretion flow in 3 out of the 23 observed members of the association; we use radiative transfer models to derive approximate accretion rates for these 3 objects. The resulting accretion rates for the three 10 Myr-old objects (< 10−9 M⊙ yr −1) are well over an order of magnitude lower than typical values in 1 Myr-old T Tauri stars. The small fraction of TW Hydrae association objects still accreting (13%, compared with ∼ 70% in 1 Myr-old regions like Taurus), along with the very small accretion rates, points to significant disk evolution over 10 Myr, providing an important constraint on the timescales for planet formation.

Accretion Disks around Young Stars: Lifetimes, Disk Locking and Variability

We report the findings of a comprehensive study of disk accretion and related phenomena in four of the nearest young stellar associations spanning 6-30 million years in age, an epoch that may coincide with the late stages of planet formation. We have obtained ∼650 multi-epoch high-resolution optical spectra of 100 lowmass stars that are likely members of the η Chamaeleontis (∼6 Myr), TW Hydrae ...

The State of Protoplanetary Material 10 Million Years after Stellar Formation: Circumstellar Disks in the Tw Hydrae Association

We have used the Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Spectrograph to observe seven members of the TW Hya association, the nearest stellar association whose age ( 10 Myr) is similar to the timescales thought to apply to planet formation and disk dissipation. Only two of the seven targets display infrared excess emission, indicating that substantial amounts of dust still exist closer to the stars th...

Near-infrared Coronagraphic Imaging of the Circumstellar Disk around Tw Hydrae

We present ground-based near-infrared (H-band) imaging of the circumstellar disk around the nearby classical T Tauri star TW Hydrae. The scattered light image shows a face-on disk with radius 4 arcseconds (corresponding to 225 AU) and a morphology which agrees with recent images from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Array. The best fit power-law for the disk’s radial surface bright...

VLA Imaging of the Disk Surrounding the Nearby Young Star TW Hydrae.

The TW Hydrae system is perhaps the closest analog to the early solar nebula. We have used the Very Large Array to image TW Hya at wavelengths of 7 mm and 3.6 cm with resolutions of 0&farcs;1 ( approximately 5 AU) and 1&farcs;0 ( approximately 50 AU), respectively. The 7 mm emission is extended and appears dominated by a dusty disk of radius greater than 50 AU surrounding the star. The 3.6 cm e...

Evolution of Dusty Disks in Nearby Young Stellar Groups

Given their proximity and age differences, nearby groups of young stars are valuable laboratories for investigations of disk evolution and diversity. The estimated 10-Myr age of groups like the TW Hydrae Association provides a strong constraint on disk evolution timescales and fills a significant gap in the age sequence between 1-Myr-old T Tauri stars in molecular clouds and 50-Myr-old nearby o...
